His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, unveiled the ghaf tree as the logo for the UAE's Year of Tolerance last month. The Year of Tolerance emphasizes the nation's vision of prosperity and stability in the region and carries on the legacy and teachings of tolerance by Sheikh Zayed, the UAE's founder.
Declaring 2019 as the Year of Tolerance in December 2018, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, said, "Instilling values of tolerance carries on Sheikh Zayed's legacy and teachings."
"Tolerance is a universal value, and Ghaf is our authentic national tree, a source of life and symbol of stability in the middle of the desert, under its shadows our ancestors gathered to consult on matters related to their daily lives," His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said of the unveiling.
The tree is a symbol of identity and heritage of the UAE – tribes would gather under the ghaf trees to discuss daily matters, and UAE leaders would convene with their communities to listen to their demands under the trees. TAQA is proud to celebrate the Year of Tolerance. Employing more than 20 nationalities in our headquarters alone, we believe our diversity makes us strong. As part of the Year of Tolerance, TAQA will host workshops and tolerance-themed programing throughout the year to promote inclusivity and acceptance as part of TAQA's core values.
