Sufficient gas storage capacity provides gas retailers with the flexibility required to match fluctuations in demand and guarantee security of supply, regardless of seasonal and short-term fluctuations in the demand for gas.
With the depletion of the Groningen gas reservoir, every supplier of natural gas should be able to enter the gas market to supply customers effectively.
The majority of the storage capacity available at Bergermeer is made available to the market via Third Party Access, meaning that all interested companies can count on transparent and non-discriminatory access to the storage facility. This helps ensure the degree of supply flexibility required for a properly functioning market.
