Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) roles are responsible for the safe and efficient execution of projects.
They ensure safe systems of work have been implemented and that opportunities for improvement are identified and acted upon.
“Things aren’t rigid here, which makes for a much more dynamic environment. And I get plenty of scope to shape my role.
I used to think that having a large organisation on my CV would be great. Now I’m happy it says TAQA. You can work in a dynamic environment rather than being a bit of a robot. There’s less structure for a lot of what we do, which means getting decisions is generally easier and quicker. You also get a fair degree of responsibility and scope to shape the role.
I’ve gained a huge amount of technical knowledge since coming to TAQA and have been involved in many industry groups that I wouldn’t have been involved with otherwise. I’m inspired by the fact that you can make a difference to the environmental performance of the installations and company as a whole. For instance, I provided environmental support to the Falcon project, TAQA’s first new field development which came on stream in record time. This was an extremely dynamic project, and one which I found immensely enjoyable and beneficial to my technical development. It was also something that I wouldn’t have been involved in before – bringing on a new field. It’s certainly one of my most rewarding experiences so far.”
“Where I worked before, there were specialists for nearly every area of HSSE and they focussed on just that one area. At TAQA Bratani the HSSE team has been relatively small so everyone has to get stuck-in! It’s given me so many opportunities to learn new things.
I’ve learnt so much since joining. Not just through the training opportunities, but from my colleagues in the HSSE team as they’ve shared their experience with me. I’ve also had the opportunity to complete my NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with TAQA’s support. They’ve helped me gain a lot more confidence in my abilities over the last three years.
I find it easy here to get to know the people I’m working on projects with, and I think that’s due to the size of the organisation. You can build relationships with people from different departments - which makes the whole process much simpler. The sense of team that everyone has is great! We’re all in it together!”
