TAQA owns a 250MW lignite-fired power plant in Tamil Nadu and has an interest in the owner and operator of a hydro-electric plant in Himachal Pradesh.
TAQA owns a 250MW lignite-fired power plant and adjoining open-cast lignite mine located in Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu. The facility began operations in 2002.
TAQA sells the entire capacity of the Neyveli plant to TANGEDCO, the local state government-owned utility, under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA). TAQA is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant and related facilities.
TAQA has an interest in Himachal Sorang Power Limited (HSPL), the owner and operator of the 100 megawatt (MW) Sorang hydro power project in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
The plant is powered by the Sorang Khad, a river originating in the Himalayas. By using run-of-the-river technology to convert the river’s natural water flow to electricity, the design has eliminated the need for a reservoir. The plant will supply electricity to the northern states of India.
